Announcement posted by Pan International (Australia) Pty Ltd 15 Feb 2010
Come and enjoy the rich, warm, captivating sounds of the Western Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) at the City of Subiaco’s forthcoming Sunset@Subi concert.
This free musical concert takes place on Sunday 21 February from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Lake Jualbup, corner of Herbert Road and Lake Avenue, Shenton Park, and will showcase the emerging talents of Western Australia’s jazz scene.
WAYJO is the only jazz orchestra of its kind, offering a valuable training ground for budding, talented jazz musicians, aged between fourteen and twenty-five.
WAYJO offers a bridge from aspiring school musician to professional working musician by providing live performance experience, musical workshops and mentorships. Hundreds of outstanding musicians have had their musical talents nurtured and developed through WAYJO with almost every Western Australian jazz, swing, lounge and big band boasting a past or current member.
WAYJO graduates have gone on to make diverse and interesting industry contributions and can be found in touring rock, pop, jazz and musical stage show bands across the world. In 2008 musicians from WAYJO played in the Dancing with the Stars house band (Jordan Murray - trombone), toured in Kylie Minogue's X2008 show (Graeme Blevins - saxophone), toured with James Morrison (Troy Roberts - saxophone) and toured with Kate Ceberano (Jamie Oehlers - saxophone, also named Head of Jazz at WAAPA this year). Local jazz giants - Jamie Oehlers, Graham Wood, Troy Roberts, Carl Mackey and Mat Jodrell have all played their way through WAYJO.
WAYJO is an innovative local institution that is always musically fresh and dynamic. Let them fill your Sunday evening with toe tapping pleasure.
