Mitrais welcomes BlackBerry developers to Bali

Software engineers from Bali software company Mitrais were among 800 delegates from across Asia who attended the first BlackBerry Developers Conference to be held outside North America.

Canadian company Research in Motion (RIM), the BlackBerry developer, chose Bali as the conference location because in recognition of the fact that Indonesia has the highest number of BlackBerry users outside North America, including the United States. The attractiveness of Bali as a tourism destination was another factor in the choice of the location according to the organizers.

Mitrais is being engaged by a growing number of Australian to develop BlackBerry applications.

BlackBerry is the platform for a mobile vehicle tracking and monitoring application which Mitrais developed recently for an Australian voice and data integrator. The application is designed to optimize planning and monitoring for transport service companies. It provides real-time updates on the location of each of a company's trucks and vehicles, contacts the drivers and reports in detail on current vehicle's status and productivity. The application used Java ME technology and BlackBerry SDK to produce a BlackBerry application enriched with GPS and web service capabilities.

Senior Mitrais software engineer, Koko Wahyu Prasetyo said the BlackBerry Developer conference provided a great opportunity to extend the company’s development expertise in the platform.

Among the conference sessions were a live demonstration and benchmarking of the BlackBerry PlayBook (tablet) which is yet released to the market and the introduction of the latest BlackBerry WebWorks software development kit.

The event showcased what can be achieved with BlackBerry applications and was attended by BlackBerry developers, business leaders, technical experts and executives from RIM’s Canada headquarters, as well as from RIM South East Asia.
