Geothermal advocate to expand HDR’s horizons

Leading Australian geothermal energy consultancy HDR (www.hotdryrocks.com) has appointed geothermal advocate Lawrence Molloy to drive new business development as the company looks to expand its services into the global market.

A trained geologist and engineer, Lawrence’s primary responsibility will be to raise awareness of HDR’s range of services in the geothermal sector, particularly in new markets including Japan and Canada. Lawrence will also drive the commercialisation of HDR’s second generation Portable Electronic Divided Bar.

“We’re very excited and privileged to have Lawrence on board to help us expand our presence in different markets globally as well as drive new business development in the Australian market,” HDR Managing Director Graeme Beardsmore said.

“The recent Carbon Tax announcement has given Australia’s geothermal energy sector substantial impetus to grow and Lawrence’s brief will help reinforce HDR’s position as a global leader and innovator in developing this previously-overlooked energy potential.”

Lawrence began his career as a mining geologist for Royal Dutch Shell and more recently was the Executive Director of The Foundation for Geothermal Innovation where he was instrumental in designing ‘The Global Geothermal Challenge’. He also executed ‘Geothermal Washington’, a policy initiative on geothermal energy in Washington State.

In 15 years as Technology Officer with Japanese machinery and engineering multi-national EBARA, Lawrence had global responsibility for the development and deployment of next generation water and power technologies. Lawrence brings a solid command of infrastructure and what it takes to bring new energy resources on line.

“HDR does tremendous work and is a passionate advocate of geothermal globally and in Australia. I’m looking forward to working with the team in developing new business opportunities,” Lawrence said.
