Accelerated proof-of-concept for e-business means new applications get to market faster

Victorian-owned, Ipex Information Technology Group and the worlds largest microchip producer, Intel, have launched a unique testing facility for organisations looking to build or expand e-business initiatives. The Ipex E-Business Solutions Centre was opened today by The Hon. John Brumby, Victorian Minister for State and Regional Development.

The project expands the long-standing relationship between Intel and Ipex. David Bolt, General Manager, Intel Australia said, Ipex is an excellent example of a local high tech company developing strong initiatives to accelerate the deployment of e-commerce in Australia. We see great value in supporting further Ipex initiatives both here and in Asia Pacific.

The Ipex E-Business Solutions Centre offers a facility where various e-business solutions can be expertly tested and validated. The service offered will benefit a range of organisations especially those that need to test and prove their e-business concepts rigorously in the shortest time frame possible.

The E-Business Solutions Centre will appeal to a wide range of businesses. For example, large corporations will be able to have complete e-business solutions tested against well defined customer requirements and environments, and software developers can the test interoperability of new software.

The first customer project to go through the Ipex E-Business Solutions Centre involved the validation and testing of a new highly secure e-business application for one of the top ten users of IT in Australia. The e-business solution tested at the centre was based on Microsofts .Net three tier strategy, EMC storage systems, and Intel-based servers.

Yaron Schwalb, Technical Director Ipex said, The E-Business Centre draws on Ipexs wide breadth of IT skills and resources. In Victoria, Ipex has hundreds in-house technical engineers who specialise in networking, server hardware, software development, back-end storage and security. Ipex is known for its strength in test lab capabilities and the new centre brings all this expertise together.

The E-Business Solutions Centre is expected to employ a core team of up to 12 skilled engineers, in addition to 70 new jobs Ipex expects to create with the current expansion of its professional services arm at its East Bentleigh operation.

E-business initiatives expose an organisation to the rest of the world, Yaron Schwalb said. The last thing an organisation wants, is to go live with a new e-business system which is not spot on in terms of performance, reliability and scalability.

Proof-of-concept is vital in e-business because risks are greater. Peak demands are more difficult to estimate than in a normal environment, where the number of users and usage patterns remain fairly constant. The speed of changes are more rapid, the application demands are more interactive, and disparate legacy systems need to be integrated.

We also expect to attract a lot of business as many organisations migrate their e-business solutions to Intels Itanium 64 bit processor. High performance e-business applications running on the Itanium processor will need to go through a rigorous testing program. Being able to come to a one-stop-shop like the Ipex E-Business Solutions Centre will shorten the overall implementation program, helping organisations to achieve business objectives faster.

The benefits of higher quality, technologically advanced e-business services will be enjoyed by individual businesses and the Australian e-business industry as a whole, said Yaron Schwalb.

Ipex employs more than 800 people nationally and is the only E-Business Centre partner Intel has in Australia (one of only four in the Asia-Pacific region).
