Senior Melbourne IT appointments strengthen digital brand services leadership

Mountain View, CA, USA – 21 September 2011 – Melbourne IT has strengthened its Digital Brand Services (DBS) senior management team with the appointment of three senior executives to support the growing DBS business.

Experienced marketer, Tim Callan, joins Melbourne IT DBS as Chief Marketing Officer, together with recognised domain industry expert, Lena Carlsson, who has been appointed Vice President of Domain Strategy.  Former European Managing Director of Corporation Service Company, Rob Holmes, rounds out the new hires as Melbourne IT DBS’s new Global Director of Brand Protection Services.

Tim Callan, Chief Marketing Officer

With more than twenty years experience in the business software, technology infrastructure and networking markets, Tim Callan joins Melbourne IT DBS from VeriSign, where he led marketing for the company’s Trust Services business in a seven year stint.  Prior to this, Tim held senior marketing and product roles with Santa Cruz Networks and Caere, and operated his own marketing consultancy for three years.

Tim was a founding member of the industry standards body that created and introduced the Extended Validation SSL standard, the CA/Browser Forum, and was also a previous Board member of the Online Trust Alliance.  Tim holds a BA (English) from UCLA.  In his new role, Tim will lead all marketing strategy and execution for Melbourne IT DBS globally.

Lena Carlsson, Vice President of Domain Strategy

Internationally recognised internet and communications policy expert, Lena Carlsson, joins Melbourne IT DBS to lead the company’s policy development and advise clients on domain strategy.

Lena spent 10 years with the Swedish Government, during which time she was responsible for a number of significant internet industry achievements including negotiating and drafting a bill which improved public oversight of the Swedish top level domain (.se); leading the EU’s successful efforts to achieve political compromise on .eu top level domain regulation; and serving two terms as Vice-Chair of ICANN's Government Advisory Committee (GAC) from 2003-2004. Lena has also served as a board member of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA).

During her time with Sweden’s Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications, Lena also represented the Swedish Government’s interests with international organisations such as the United Nations, European Union, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). 

She joins Melbourne IT from the Swedish representation to the European Union, where she was lead negotiator on IT and telecoms policy, and a member of the senior executive team. Prior to this, Lena worked at Cloudberri, a Sydney-based strategy consulting firm working with Australian and international communication technology clients. 

Lena holds Master of Law degrees from Stockholm University and University of Illinois, and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management.

Rob Holmes, Global Director of Brand Protection Services

As Global Director of Brand Protection Services, Rob Holmes will be responsible for the development and growth of Melbourne IT DBS’s online brand protection solutions.  Rob possesses a wealth of business development and product management experience from a variety of senior roles where he has managed global teams, led large sales forces and achieved strong revenue growth.

His career includes five years at Corporation Service Company (CSC), where he left as European Managing Director to join Melbourne IT DBS.  Prior to CSC, Rob was Director of Product Management at Register.com and worked in a business development capacity for Virtual Internet Plc.  Rob has an MA (Philosophy, Politics & Economics) from Oxford University.
