Eric Maure, Victoria University wins first place for best dashboard using SAP Crystal Dashboard Design
SAP Australia, in conjunction with Victoria University, today announced that Eric Maure from Victoria University has won the 2011 Australian University Dashboard Competition. This year’s competition attracted 25 entrants from three universities: Victoria, Monash and RMIT.

Entries were judged on several criteria including format, ease of use, output, functionality, response time and general “X factor”. The project was based on Global Bike International (GBI), a fictional world class bicycle company serving both professional and amateur cyclists. The students had to create a flexible sales dashboard capable of delivering information in less than five seconds. The end result had to be able to display sales revenue and sales gross profit by time, product, organisation and location.

Based on these criteria first prize was awarded to Eric Maure who received an Apple iPad and will now have his dashboard displayed on the SAP website. Michael Dauzet and Duc Pham Anh were awarded second place and William Chen came third. The top three entries were all from Victoria University.

“This year we were looking for creative entries that clearly communicated complex data in a visually-appealing style and we that was exactly what we got,” said Paul Hawking, SAP Academic Programs Director at Victoria University.

Tim Ebbeck, President and Chief Executive Officer, SAP Australia & New Zealand, said “This year’s University Dashboard Competition has produced some outstanding results and it’s great to see so many students getting involved. Higher education is a key focus area for us and we are happy to be supporting the ongoing strategic technology innovation in this sector that will undoubtedly go on to spur business growth in the future.”

SAP provided several free resources for the competition, including a trial download of SAP Crystal Dashboard Design as well as the SAP Crystal Dashboard Design Tutorial and SAP Crystal Dashboard Design User Guide.

Entries were judged by a combination of SAP mentors and university lecturers from Monash and Victoria including: Susan Foster, Monash University; Tony De Thomasis, Acclimation; Ingo Hilgefort, SAP Canada; Tammy Powlas, Fairfax Water, USA and Paul hawking, Victoria University.

The competition was open to all Australian university students. More details on the competition, software and tutorials are available at http://www1.sap.com/australia/about/dashboard_competition/index.epx.
